Dolores Pesce, the Avis Blewett professor of music at Washington University, has many writing credits on her resume; the most recent is a biography of the composer-performer who might be considered the world’s first rock star, Franz Liszt. “Liszt’s Final Decade” explores the last years and interior conflicts of a onetime public idol (“Lisztomania” was a thing; women fought over shreds of his handkerchiefs) who in later life entered holy orders. Pesce will talk about the challenges of writing about that complex character in a free lecture at the university’s Olin Library; a question-and-answer period will follow. By Sarah Bryan Miller
